Since you couldn’t erase the stroke effect before, you can now because it’s on its own layer. Take the eraser tool and get rid of the stroke around the forehead so it looks more natural.

Get used to working on the base layer of a clipping group. Make sure it is selected in the layers palette in order to use the blur or smudge tool as I am using here.

Yes, it’s a different way of thinking Ctrl click on the layer to view the selection.

Now you can go ahead and add some more pop-out effect if you want by using the same technique. Use the lasso on ‘add to selection’.

Here I’m using the quick mask mode to get a little smoother selection. I’m customizing a brush here and bringing down the hardness level to give it a softer selection. Quick masking is covered in depth in the Basic Photoshop Training program. Use black as your foreground color to deselect the area outside of her arm.

Press Q to exit the quick mask mode and you have the new selection.

Now go to the yellow layer in the palette and alt backspace to fill it (use the i-dropper tool to re-select the same color after temporarily turning off the white fill layer). Now you have the expanded stroke layer.

You may have to nudge it over with the moVe tool 2 pixels to the right if you want the stroke effect to show up.
