Here is another power move: In the layers palette, go to the top layer and select it. Now create a Hue adjustment layer from the middle bottom pop up button on the layer palette. Choose colorize and use these settings.

You can see the preview with the checkbox clicked. Press OK. Now you’ve applied a global color hue to the entire design. Note the rich metallic copper feel of the choice. This hue will apply to all layers beneath it in the layers palette and because it’s an adjustment layer you can easily change your settings or even get rid of it by dragging it to the trash. You can also change the layer order.

Select the background layer and fill it with black.

Since we split the entire design into quarter panels but want to add some extra text space; what do we do? Go to Image: Canvas Size and we’re going to add some extra room to the design. I’m changing the height from 10 to 10.4 as shown in the screenshot. Note the center Anchor setting is ‘pushing’ the design down to create the space at the top of the document.

Now that you’ve created some extra space, select the background layer and fill it with black (paintbucket, alt backspace, etc.). Wow, black never look so good almost eh? See how ‘rich’ it becomes?! It’s a nice balance and inspirational to the wandering eye.

Now create some text with your ‘T’ tool. You’ll definitely have to ‘size it down’ so keep handy the Character palette (or use the options bar). I like working in full screen mode (FF) when I can.
